Tell Vanguard to Divest from Sudan

The Vanguard Group—the world's largest family of mutual funds—recently increased its holdings in PetroChina, a partner of the government of Sudan.

By withdrawing investments from companies that do business with the government of Sudan, we can help cut off the financial support that allows the government-sponsored atrocities to continue. Divestment is a crucial effort to cut off funding for the genocide in Darfur.

Use the form at the right to send a message to Vanguard telling them to divest from companies that support a government led by a wanted war criminal—and that you won't invest with them if they don't.

I urge you to drop your opposition to Question 3 on your proxy and transparently adopt the genocide-free investment policy that is proposed there.

By partnering with and investing in Sudan, companies such as PetroChina, CNPC, Sinopec, ONGC and Petronas have been complicit in the genocide in Darfur.

I understand you have a company policy that is, in your words, "substantially identical" to the shareholder proposal. It is obvious that this policy is not sufficient, however, as your spokesman admits Vanguard has yet to divest from a single holding due to concerns about human rights abuses.

It is time to drop your opposition to Question 3 and publicly adopt a policy that you will never invest in companies that do business with the world's worst abusers of human rights or profit from genocide - and then implement it by divesting from PetroChina.

If you fail to quickly take these steps, it will negatively impact my relationship with your firm, and I will not consider investing with Vanguard in the future.
